interim executives Roland Mann's Bio Roland Mann: 1897 to 1986 "Security can be found by taking risk" Roland Mann was born on a farm in Fairfield, Illinois, in 1897. The family moved to Kansas in the early 1900’s where Roland (Raleigh) walked the proverbial two miles to the one-room schoolhouse. During his traditional career life he was a salesman and sales manager for one of the national meat packers, calling on rural retail grocery and dry-goods stores in Missouri and southern Illinois. Eventually, he became Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the firm. He retired from his ‘first career’ when he was 55. Roland and many of his professional colleagues retired early from their successful careers. All but Roland died within two years of their retirement. Roland lived life fully, and stayed actively engaged for another 34 years, until the age of 89. Roland was insightful into the needs of business and the nature of people. You will see his sayings and witticisms sprinkled through out the newsletters. A few that he always retold to his grandchildren were:
